HRH’s “Sleeping Beauty” Tickets on Sale

Are you looking for a fun-filled, family-oriented event this November? Well, look no further than Holy Redeemer’s upcoming production of Sleeping Beauty!

“This show is so much fun,” says Drama Teacher Peter Taylor. “It’s been a long time since our school performed a fairy tale. I mean a true fairy tale complete with a beautiful princess, a handsome prince, an evil fairy and all the elements like that. We are so looking forward to showcasing this play.”

Over 40 grade 7 to 12 students will take part in the production that is based on the classic fairy tale of the same name. Of course, this show will be performed in the style of a pantomime, which changes the whole concept into a comedy. “Our students have been killing themselves laughing in rehearsals,” says Taylor. “I think the audience is in for a real treat this year.”

As per tradition, the students are set to perform the play eight times over a four day period. Five of the performances will be for the general public with showtimes at 7 pm from November 27th to 30th, plus a special 2 pm matinee on the 30th. The other three performances will be for the local elementary schools.

One major change is that this year the show will not be performed at the Red Brick, but instead will be performed in the gym at HRH. “Unfortunately, the Red Brick sustained some flood damage in August and their repairs will take a few months to complete,” says Taylor. “So we are moving the show to our gym.” Taylor added that the Drama Department will be investing a lot of money into making sure the audience receives an excellent play experience  by renting microphones, curtains, a truss system, and so much more.

Tickets for the play are $10 each and available at the school office by calling 780-723-7437. More information on the show can be found on the school’s website, holyredeemerhigh.ca.

The students have already invested so much into the production with some actors rehearsing up to four nights a week. Some of the key players in the play include Kiersten T who plays the title character, Christina B who plays the evil fairy Minerva, Landon M who plays the hilarious fairy Edna, and all of the fairies played by Maya D, Karly G, Heaven P, Emily S, Sara S, and Katie S.

The play has already garnered a lot of community support from local businesses through sponsorship donations. Thus far, the major sponsors of the play are Bannister Edson, BarBurrito, Jensen’s Lifestyle Clothing, and Weyerhaeuser. The Drama Department is still collecting sponsors and if any business is interested, please contact Mr. Taylor at the school.

With that, we hope to see everyone buying their tickets as these young actors look forward to seeing you at the show.
