Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I am reaching out to share a significant update regarding our school calendar.
Due to an unforeseen circumstance and the recent decision by GYPSD, we find it necessary to adjust our calendar on February 7, 2024. Originally designated as an instructional day for staff and students, we now need to convert it into a half day Professional Learning Day for our staff.
This decision stems from an unexpected change to the collective agreement within our neighboring school division, which controls transportation for our children. As a result, our students will now need to be picked up “shortly after 1 pm” on February 7, 2024, as noted in communication from the GYPSD Transportation Department. In order to address this situation and optimize the time without students, Principal Sorensen and I with our Senior Administration Team and Board of Trustees have decided it is in the best interest of all to utilize the day for necessary professional development for our staff.
We understand changes to the school calendar may impact various aspects of our community, and we assure you this decision was not made lightly. We believe the proposed half day Professional Learning Day is essential to supporting our families with transportation needs and ensuring the best possible educational experience for our students.
