For anyone who travels into the school office at Holy Redeemer they will see a new face there to greet them. Although the face may be familiar to many as it will be Jena Power, HRH’s new Financial Secretary.
“I worked with Jena for almost three years while I was Principal at Vanier,” says HRH Principal Betty Churchill. “When I heard that Jena would be coming to work at HRH I was ecstatic.”
Power has been the Financial Secretary at Vanier for the past five years. She will now be filling the role at both schools working at HRH in the morning and at Vanier in the afternoon.
“I’m excited for the new challenge,” says Power. “The systems we work on are the same for both schools, but there are many different things that I will be getting used to since HRH is a junior and senior high school.” Power says that she will be dealing with school’s finances. Everything from school fees to fundraising to sports fees to ordering supplies, she will be taking care of it. “It’s a very important job,” says Churchill. “And I can’t think of anyone better than Mrs. Power to take on this responsibility for our school.”
Many students will recognize Power as she became a familiar face to many while they attended elementary school. “It’s so great to see all of the students that I knew from Vanier and how they’ve grown,” she says.
Throughout her first few days Power says she been treated extremely well by the staff as she transitions between schools. “Everyone has been so kind. It’s a great work environment.” On top of that, Power said that she really likes the students. “The students here are so nice and welcoming,” she says.
Power grew up in Edson spending about 25 years of her life here. After moving away for a few years, her and her family returned to Edson seven years ago. Two years later she joined the Living Waters School Division staff and the rest is history.
So, the next time you call the school office or drop by the school, be sure to welcome Power to the HRH Family.
