Dear Grade 12 Students and Parents/Guardians,
With the recent announcement on diploma exams being optional, we wanted to reach out to all of
our Grade 12 families. In an effort to organize and prepare for the return to school on January 11,
2021 we have posted a 2020/21 School Year Optional Diploma Exams: Questions and Answers
to help you in your decision making. Just click the blue link and it will take you to this
informative document.
Mrs. Tobin will be sending along a Google Form in order for you to identify your final decision
regarding writing or not writing diplomas. This will help us prepare for the logistics of
administering the English 30-1 & 30-2 Part A diploma exams on January 11th, 2021.
Students are encouraged to contact their prospective post-secondary institution to inquire about
specific admission requirements. We know the Alberta government is working with Alberta
post-secondary institutions to ensure admission decisions are sensitive to the unique
circumstances for this school year.
Those students who receive a final school awarded grade below 50% in their 30 level diploma
courses will write the diploma exam, which will be worth 30% of their final grade. With this in
mind, we ask students to attend regularly scheduled classes online throughout this time to
continue to learn, receive teacher instruction, and have access to the assistance they need to be
successful.
Those students not writing a diploma WILL write a school-based final exam. The English
Language Arts final exam will include a written portion worth 10% and another portion worth
5%. Mathematics and Science final exams will be worth 10% each.
As always we are here to assist and support you in any way possible. Please feel free to contact
Mrs. Tobin or Mrs.Churchill at 780-723-7437 if you have any questions or concerns. We remain
committed to our Holy Redeemer students and families during this transition to online learning.
God Bless,
Betty Churchill, Principal
