HRH's Newest Teacher
The students and parents will see a new face walking through the halls at Holy Redeemer this year as Brandy Schutz will be joining the teaching staff at HRH.
“Due to our enormous increases to our student population we posted for a .5 teaching position,” says Principal Bill McGowan. “We knew that Mrs. Schutz would be a perfect fit with her work as a substitute teacher in the past few years. Needless to say we are very excited to have her on board.”
Schutz has lived in Edson for the past six years raising her three children with her husband. “We moved here from Stony Plain after my husband took a position here,” she says. “We’ve grown to love the community.”
Schutz was born and raised in Stony Plain where she attended the University of Alberta’s Bachelor of Education program. She obtained a double major in Physical Education and Social Studies and a minor in Special Education. From there, she took on teaching positions at Broxton Park in Spruce Grove and Graminia School near Devin.
When Schutz and her family moved to Edson, she stepped away from the classroom. “I really enjoyed spending time at home with my family,” she says. “But I’m happier to be back in the classroom. And I’m really excited to be at Holy Redeemer.”
The last few years Schutz could be seen as a substitute teacher at HRH. “I’ve known so many of these students through my own kids,” she says. “They are such a wonderful group that I knew this would be a perfect fit for me.”
Schutz will be teaching English 10-1, grade 8 & 9 Knowledge & Employability Math, and a grade 8 Lifeskills class. “These classes really fit my lifestyle,” she says. “Combined with the fact that I feel very welcome here, I’m very happy to be at HRH.” Schutz also mentioned how easy everyone is making the transition back into teaching. “The administration, teaching and support staff, and especially the students are making me feel very comfortable here. I know I’m really going to enjoy my time here.”
