Sponsors for Provincials
The Edson community is no stranger to supporting local events, and when local businesses heard that Holy Redeemer was hosting the 2A Boys Basketball Provincial Championships later this month, they rushed to lend their support.
“It has been completely overwhelming,” says Tournament Chairperson and Organizer Laura Webb. “The cost to run provincials is huge, so it means a lot that so many local businesses stepped forward to help support this amazing opportunity for our students and our school.”
The provincial fundraising committee raised over $16,000. The largest contributor was ConocoPhillips who donated $5000 to the cause. “We understood that asking for funds during these difficult economic times was going to be tough, but we were completely taken aback by the response,” says Webb.
Other businesses and groups that donated over $1000 were the Living Waters School Board, Jachelle Holdings Ltd, Prochem Oilfield Chemicals, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 51, and the Knights of Columbus.
The provincial tournament is set to take place from March 16th to 18th, with all games being played in the gymnasium at Holy Redeemer. The home team Rebels will be in action making their fifth appearance in a row at the provincial championship. “The last four years our team has had to travel across the province to compete,” says Head Coach Peter Saik. “We thought it would be great to host on our home turf in front of our fans for once.” This will mark the first provincial championship to be held at HRH.
In addition to the above sponsors, there were multiple other businesses that donated between $100 and $500: Rumball Contracting, Edson Mini Pumpers, Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Bear Lake Contracting, MBWJ Chartered Accountants, Backwoods Resources Inc, Octane Controls, CIBC, Wilden’s Service Ltd, Tyler Storozhenko, U-Auto Wash, Dr. Shari Jean Robinson, HRH Student Council, Tourmaline Oil Corporation, WSP, T West Store, Weyerhaeuser, Hell’s Half Acre, Maximum Meals Ltd, and Dickson Cattle Co. Ltd.
“There were also a lot of businesses, organizations and individuals that found other ways to help either by donating items or volunteering their time to help with the weekend of games,” says Webb. These include Johnson & Herbert Construction Inc, Smitty’s Family Restaurant, Canadian Tire, Town of Edson, Paschak Family, Smith Family, Telecom West, Grantco Holdings Ltd, Gelmici Jewellers Ltd. A&W, National Oilwell Varco, and Edson Glass Ltd.
In the coming weeks, a full schedule of games will be posted on the HRH Facebook page: facebook.com/holyredeemerhigh. So be sure to come on our and cheer on the Rebels.
