Eagle Feather for Grads

On May 23rd, Elder Frieda Maynard came to Holy Redeemer to speak to the grade 12 Indigenous students who will be graduating this year. These students will be presented with a special Eagle feather upon their graduation. In First Nations culture, the eagle symbolizes honesty, truth, majesty, strength, courage, wisdom, power and freedom. Presenting an eagle feather upon graduation signifies the achievement of this important educational journey and the honour the graduate brings to his or her family, community, and tribal nation. Here, Maynard speaks to grade 12 students Tanya Mainville, Ella Felsing, Jaden Gauchier, and Liam Smith.
